Trash & Recycling
Solid Waste Collection Program
Solid Waste will be collected in the Borough every Wednesday. Unacceptable solid waste includes hazardous waste, vegetative wastes, medical wastes, computers and their components, or building materials. Collections may start as early as 6 am. Please put out your garbage cans the night before and make sure that the cans are properly secured from possible animal intrusion. The annual cost for the service is $160, which covers the service fee to the solid waste contractor. Additonal costs are determined by the amount of garbage you place out for collection. Stickers are available at the Chester Borough Hall during regular business hours in the Tax Office. Stickers can also be purchased at the UPS Store on West Main Street. One sticker shall be affixed per the weight of each bag, in a choice of either fifteen (15) pounds or thirty (30) pounds of solid waste, or as specified for bulky items. Sticker purchases must be in multiple lots of ten (10) stickers. The fee for 30 pound stickers is $12.00 and $6.00 for 15 pound stickers.

Recycling Collection Program
Recyclables are collected by the MCMUA once per week, on Wednesdays. Please place your recycling out the night before. There are no holidays on a Wednesday in 2009. Recyclables must be placed at the curb the night before collection. Wet recyclable materials are not a problem, in case it is raining. Please place a heavy item on top of the recyclables, or else use lids to secure the recyclable items from being blown about. If the recycling crew fails to collect your recyclables, even though you placed them out for collection at the correct time and place, please call Ana at 879-5361 X121 no later than 10 am on the day following the missed collection.
Glass, Cans and Plastic
All glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, tin cans, bi-metal cans, all plastic bottles (with a #1 or #2 on the bottom of the bottle), empty aerosol cans, will be collected in a co-mingled state. You may place these items at curbside for collection in the same re-usable bucket or container. All caps should be removed. All bottles, jars and cans must be rinsed. Do not include plastic if it is not a bottle. Do not include foil wrap, aluminum pie plates or pans. Do not include plastic or paper bags with this recycling material.
Newsprint, Computers, Cardboard and Mixed Paper
Co-mingled mixed paper-includes magazines, junk mail, computer paper, office and school paper, cardboard boxes, chipboard, cookie/cracker/cereal boxes, notebook backings, egg cartons, catalogs, paper products, books with hard covers removed, fax paper, manila folders, brown grocery bags, and envelopes with windows. All mixed paper may be co-mingled together in the same container. Mixed paper should not be co-mingled with cardboard, newspaper, or any other recyclable items mentioned above. Do not recycle chipboard/paperboard cartons from six-pack and twelve-packs. These items have been coated with a treated material, which makes them resistant to the recycling process. Do not include phone books or carbon paper. Newspapers shall be bundled and cross-tied with twine, bundles not to exceed twenty five (25) pounds in weight. Corrugated cardboard should be flattened and cross-tied, separate from newspaper. Do not use or include plastic bags!
Computers
Please note that computers and their components now need to be recycled. Please call the MUA at 973-829-8006 or visit their website at www.mcmua.com for information. Do not put these items out with your regular recyclables.
